There’s been a lot of misinformation surrounding the Senate’s border bill. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t a true border bill. The actual border legislation, H.R. 2, was passed by the House but was stalled in the Senate, where Majority Leader Chuck Schumer never brought it to the floor for a vote. Every Democrat opposed H.R. 2, despite it focusing on border security.

The Senate bill, on the other hand, failed for several reasons, which included provisions like:

- Codifying "catch and release" policies

- Allowing 1.8 million illegal immigrants to remain

- Funding sanctuary cities and NGOs that assist in moving illegal immigrants

- Providing work permits and legal aid for undocumented individuals

- Weakening asylum screening processes

- Offering no immediate funding for a border wall

- Allocating over $60 billion to Ukraine, with significant funds directed to military operations across different branches.

Ultimately, the bill strayed far from the goal of securing the border, which contributed to its failure.
